Why Is Rooney Having Nightmares?

By now you’ve no doubt already heard about the remake of Nightmare on Elm Street. You also know that Roschach from The Watchmen is slated to play Freddy Krueger. What you might not know is who exactly is playing the Nancy Thompson role in this reworking of NoES…That would be Rooney Mara. Okay, so you have heard that she will be playing the protagonist part in the remake of Nightmare on Elm Street. But do you know anything else about her? No?

Rooney Mara, the great-granddaughter of Pittsburgh Steelers founder Art Rooney, Sr. and of Giants founder Tim Mara, is somewhat new to acting. She first played a very small role in Urban Legends: Bloody Mary. She has had bit parts and roles in tv shows like E.R., Women’s Murder Club, Law & Order: SVU. She will be starring in the upcoming movies Tanner Hall, Youth in Revolt, Winning Season, and Dare. You might know better her sister Kate Mara from Brokeback Mountain, Random Hearts, or Shooter. She is set to star in Iron Man II.

So it looks like Nightmare on Elm Street may be the movie to make or break Rooney Mara’s acting career. While we’ve only seen in her bits and pieces here and there, that may not matter. Other women worthy of the scream queen title were not well-known before they starred in THE horror movie that made them stand out! It appears that we are now stuck having to wait and see if Rooney can handle and play well the part of Nancy Thompson! I for one really hope that she (and the movie) is worth the wait!!
