Scream Queens Week One

For those of you who haven’t been paying attention, VH1 along with Lionsgate Films, decided to make things interesting. They held open auditions and out of all the possible ladies who tried out for Scream Queens, ten lucky (and maybe not so lucky) ladies were given an opportunity of a horror lifetime. If they lasted til the end, they would be named the Scream Queen and win a role in the upcoming Saw VI!

To help pick out and decide who would be worthy of such a major role, they employed the services of longtime and well-known acting coach John Homa. This man is for lack of a better word, an absolute pro. He has been in the business of helping actors and actresses for over 25 years. Some of these performers include: Mena Suvari, Kirsten Dunst, Michelle Williams, Gina Phillips, Freddie Prinze Jr., Jennifer Love Hewitt, just to name a few. {Insert sarcasm here} Also along for the ride, is the talented and lovely Shawnee Smith. She played the role of Amanda in the first 4 Saw movies. She starred in a remake of The Blob. And she has a role in the upcoming thriller Grudge 3. Last but not least, is James Gunn. James wrote the screenplay for the reworking of Dawn of the Dead  in 2004 and also wrote Splinter in 2006. He has won awards for some of his works. So here we have the trifecta of sorts: the acting coach, the “director”, and the host of the show.

Now that leaves the 10 ladies.
*Sarah, waitress , New Jersey
*Angela, hostess, San Diego
*Lindsay, former Child Star, Washington
*Michelle, student, Texas
*Tanedra, waitress California
*Kylah, model Texas
*Jo-anne, pilates instructor England
*Jessica, waitress Massachusetts
*Marissa, actress NY
*Lina So, actress Las Vegas

The first chance for the girls to display their acting skill happened in the first few minutes of the show. They each had to plead for their lives, with a chainsaw killer. As you can expect, these displays ranged from crazy, flat-out, to omg, it’s almost so real because that’s how good they were. The former display came from Jessica. The latter emerged from the newly acting, with no former training to her name, Tanedra. This is someone who could really prove to be a thorn in the other girls’ sides!

The first time the girls had with their acting coach Jon Homa, was interesting to say the least! He told them to eat a piece of fruit as seductive as they could. And some of them did. And some of them really went over the top…sucking on the grapes, deep-throating their bananas, or just rubbing the fruit and its juices all over their bodies. Needless to say, Jon was not a happy man. He wanted more from them. He wasn’t asking them to “give blowjobs” to their fruit. All he wanted was a believable performance from the ten ladies, and he didn’t feel that they delivered!

The girls’ time with James went over maybe a little bit better. He wanted them to reenact the infamous tub scene from his 2006 movie Slither. You know the one I’m talking about. The one where the girl is trying to talk her guy into a bubble bath but ends up with the snake worm thing instead! The girls had a somewhat simple choice to make: go nude, partially nude, or wear the nude undies!  This created more drama than there needed to be. James was looking for several things. He wanted them to be convincing in their attempts to seduce the guy with their words. He also wanted them to SCREAM!!  Some of the girls did better than others.

When it came time for one of the ladies to get the Axe, that first honor fell to Jo-Anne of England. She didn’t deliver on cue. She was a better performer when the cameras weren’t rolling. That was a real problem. James and Jon wanted more and deserved better and they didn’t get that, with the blonde Brit.

So, she’s gone. 9 more lovely contenders. I wonder… Who will be the next lady to get the Axe?

Only one way to find out, so Stay Tuned!!
