Scream Queens Week 5

If you’ve never been a fan of anything that crawls or oozes, or is just plain yucky, this episode was not for you! It started out innocent enough, Shawnee asking the girls to put bikinis on…and to rub petroleum jelly all over their bodies.

Yeah, right! Shawnee’s time with the girls was spent, with them having to get into bloody water (can’t forget the floating fake body parts!) and recite their lines. Okay, maybe recite isn’t the right word for it. Some ladies screamed. Some yelled. Some acted crazy (we all know who that was). The girls had to act as though they had been brutalized, humiliated, chased…The tip Shawnee gave the girls was to think of someone they were angry with in real life and apply that to their performance. Jessica was typically loony tunes and Tanedra as usual, kicked much ass. Surprising as it was, Angela took the advice she received from the judges last week and applied it well. She stepped up her game and it really showed!

Jon has never left out the fact that he wants the girls to really open up and use their emotion in their scenes. So this session he took the girls to Linda Vista Community Hospital. Or specifically, to what was left of a once-working morgue. He told the ladies that one of their jobs, as a scream queen is to introduce and bring the audience to the experience of dying, emotionally. He instructed the girls and told them that they would recite a simple nursery rhyme…while inside of a crypt of sorts. Or the morgue drawer that slides in to the place where the body is stored. While they were being holed up in a creepy metal box and reciting the rhyme, they had to think about someone they either had to say good-bye to or will have to one day. Then they were to use the emotion it would bring up. Most of the women did well. They were raw and full of feeling. Sara seemed bland and Jon wasn’t afraid to let her know. If they couldn’t be as real as they could, then the audience wouldn’t be able to believe it either.

What bugs you? What makes your skin itch and crawl? Is it…Bugs? Once again, you probably didn’t pay much attention to this next part. The part where James had the pairs of girls act out a scene, with roaches! Picture this with me, if you will…You are camping out somewhere with your closest friend. It’s dark outside. You keep hearing noises outside your tent. Just hearing things, right? Nope. Turns out the campgrounds are overrun by nasty, creepy, crawly cockroaches. Girl A had to calm down Girl B. Then before you know it, the tent floor is covered with cockroaches and they’re panicking, trying to get out of the tent! The pairs were as follows: Lindsay and Michelle, Sara and Jessica, and Tanedra and Angela. As you can tell, the crazy, less talented girls chose each other and were paired. Can you guess which team performed the worst? You got it! It was Jessica and Sara, although it did seem like Jessica improved a little.

With this week’s episode of Scream Queens, it was Angela who showed the most improvement. For all 3 of the exercises, she was able to use her fear. Her real fear fed into and fueled her performances. She showed more promise and ability. Jon and Shawnee agreed when it came time for eliminations, that Angela had done a real turn-around with her performances. Tanedra remains the top lady to beat. Michelle is still not consistent with her acting. Jessica seemed to improve. Lindsay faltered in one challenge. But, it was Sara who was cut. They said she didn’t show enough versatility. It means, she had one way of doing and saying things, where she needed variety. Imho, her elimination should cut down on the drama for the last few episodes. Sara brought everything down, with her negativity and way of looking at things. So, now we have Angela, Tanedra, Michelle, Lindsay, and Jessica! Things have definitely tightened considerably. We’ll see who gets the axe next time!
