Daveigh Chase is not new to the world of horror. She played Donnie’s younger sister Samantha in Donnie Darko back in 2002. She also portrayed Samara Morgan in the Ring. Most of her acting credentials come from various movie
voice-overs and parts in tv shows, a handful of CSI’s and Big Love. She’s also known to have a pretty good
singing voice. Now I’m wondering how well she’ll be able to scream, in her upcoming movie S. Darko!! S. Darko is directed by Chris Fisher (Nightstalker) instead of Richard Kelly, for the much anticipated sequel!
For those of us who actually watched and probably rewatched (let’s be honest here) Donnie Darko, some of us I know
will be watching the somewhat anticipated sequel S. Darko, which involves Donnie’s much younger sister Samantha. Samantha Darko has been trying to recover even still from the untimely and really weird death of her older brother. I have to mention this next part…Time has now passed, 7 years to be more specific. Now it’s 1995. Samantha, now 17 years old, has dreams of becoming a movie star so she takes her best friend Megan along for the ride, all the way to Hollywood!
Here is what it, once again, gets very weird and very reminiscent of Donnie Darko…The girls’ car breaks down in Utah
and there just happens to be a very dangerous meteor that hits the town. As usual, there lots of weird and confusing dreams and apocalyptic visions that start to plague young Samantha. Those of you who love when sequels include original characters, will be very pleased to know that the girl who originally played Donnie’s sister Samantha, is once again being portrayed by Daveigh Chase!
I know that I was confused and I had to rewatch Donnie Darko. I’m wondering if S. Darko will have the same feel and
complexity as the film before it had. Because I am such a fan of movies that recast characters, I will definitely be seeing
S. Darko. I might even walk away from this film feeling the same bewilderment and Oh! That’s what that meant! sense that I got from Donnie Darko. For those of you who have still not seen Donnie Darko, go! Rent it! Watch it! That way, you’ll be caught up enough to watch his younger sister go through similar experiences!
