Underworld 3: Rise of the Lycans

I was a huge fan of the previous Underworld movies. I love Kate Beckinsale’s character Selene. I loved the conflict between the vampires and lycans. That theme was central to the other 2 films. And so with Underworld 3: Rise of the Lycans, I was disappointed that Kate had no part in the movie, except the bookend effect (voice-overs at the beginning and end of the movie).
But, that wasn’t what UW3 was about. It was about the brutal battle involving the vampires led by the cruel enslaving vampire king Viktor and Lucian’s brood, the werewolves or Lycans. Only, the plot doesn’t stop there. It turns out that Lucian is having a secret affair with a very sexy vampire (Rhona Mitra) and she aids him in fighting the vampire king!!

While Kate was not in this movie, I enjoyed Rhona’s performance. Rhona is not a newcomer to the world of horror. She has also starred in Skinwalkers (another movie about werewolves) and Doomsday (a post-apocalyptic action movie…Great kickass movie when you have the time to check it out!) She has also been in The Number 23, Life of David Gale, Hollow Man, Get Carter, Beowulf, and much more!! While I did enjoy her performances in several of these movies, she really stood out in Underworld 3. I look forward to anything else she does in the future. I would love to see her in more horror-related films.
