The Final…will you pass?

The Final…will you pass?

Post Rating

While I normally stick to reviewing movies that are more main stream, I kinda had no choice this past weekend. Husband decided to rent some horror movies that just happen to be the After Dark HorrorFest films of recent. Every year eight films are released under the Films to Die For moniker. I have vowed the last 2 years to watch some of the movies but so far never broke down to actually watch one. I finally found myself watching a movie called “The Final” at 3 in the morning on Saturday.

At first glance, this movie appears to be almost of a slasher quality. By that, I mean you have a group of kids in high school, with attention drawn to how this particular group of kids is treated by the more popular, more attractive, etc kids. It isn’t until about fifteen minutes into the movie that you realize these bullied teenagers have a vengeful plan to carry out involving the popular kids.

Sweet Innocent Emily

I would be doing you a great disservice if I were to tell you the rest of the story, written well by Jason Kabolati and directed by Joey Stewart. What I will tell you is that the petite, brunette girl who goes by the name of Emily is an actress to watch for in any upcoming movies that she stars in later. Lindsay Seidel has done voice work for anime series’ and audio books. I believe that The Final is her first real movie role, and I have to say that she is amazing!

When you first learn about Emily, she appears to be shy and weak. When you see her at the party the weak kids throw for the popular students, that assumption goes out the window. She is strong and calculating. She is precise in her movements and when she takes her mask off to reveal her identity, you see the darkness that lies within.

There are a few things that will dawn on you as you watch Lindsay Seidel in “The Final”. A few of them are self-explanatory. But after some digging here is what you discover…

It is not the mask that is the scary, creepy part about the kids. It is the looks on their faces when they all reveal who they are to their scared captives. This is what true horror can look like. It is not the scary masks or the sinister weapons. It is the cold, dead look of apathy on a killer’s face, no matter how innocent they may seem.

Lindsay plays her role well, almost to the point of discomfort. How cool and deliberate her actions are, even until the very end. I would highly recommend that you go to your nearest movie rental place and pick up a copy of The Final now today. If you’re looking for something more than just your typical, average horror movie, you will most definitely find it!
