What do I say about FD4? Should I be brutally honest or sugarcoat it? Hmm…tough choice. I’ll go with Door #1. The first ten minutes of the movie were the Best out of the entire movie. 3D or not, if it were not for the fact that it was in 3D, I would have walked out of the theater, muttering something reminiscent of WTF was that? As I said, I will not sugarcoat this movie for you. I will instead, spare you of wasting time and money to see this film.
The actors were mediocre. They were attractive but lacked the simple ability to keep you focused on the movie. The plot was okay but a few of the death scenes were just too far-fetched. But they usually are kind of outlandish I hear you say. True, but anybody knows that a large industrial fan just does not have the power (Insert Tim Taylor grunt here if you like) to blow tons of mostly full large paint cans on a steel cart! Hello! Did we forget plain common sense? When did directors and producers become so obsessed with the graphics (over quality, I might add) that they watered down the plot line and threw logic out the window?
I have avidly watched horror films for over 16 years now. I have seen some unbelievable things…a detached and possessed male body part strangling a woman all the way to the contraption in the beginning of Saw 3, I think it was, with the needles and hooks. But this was just awful. There is only one good death scene and it’s the one with the escalator that sucks a young girl in and grinds her body into icky stretchy flesh. That one made my stomach turn some. But that was it! Nothing else. If you have not had a chance to see this movie, I suggest that you skip it. Go rent Last House on the Left (2009). I’ll be adding that one to the review section in a few days.
If you want good gore and a better plot line, re-watch the original Final Destination with Ali Larter (So hot, she is!) and Devon Sawa. (What the F&^% has he been working on lately, anyway? Anybody know?) It was fresh and original and terrifying in a way that the sequels have failed to deliver on, even partly. Death became a vicious stalker, taking down one character at a time. Death was coming and there was no way they could stop it. It could be postponed, but every survivor of the plane crash met their end, sooner or later.
If you have to choose between The Final Destination and say, Sorority Row (came out on 9-11-09) or Jennifer’s Body (9-18-09), pick the movies with the real hotties…Briana Evigan, Margo Harshman, Megan Fox. Don’t’ bother with this one. Or if you are really in a mood to see something in 3D, rent My Bloody Valentine 3D (keep in mind it is a slasher movie, so don’t hold that against it) or just wait for the day they can do a kickass horror movie in 3D!!
