I thought Mirrors was fantastic. I enjoyed watching Kiefer in a darker role than he normally takes on. A suspended cop turned security guard goes to work at an old burned down department store. He’s haunted by horrific visions and starts to suspect that the mirrors in the store are pure evil. His family is in danger and he has to solve a mystery of sorts. What is Esseker? Who is Esseker? Okay, I liked the suspense that lead to Ben having to research and investigate Esseker. The mirrors are looking for Esseker. They are no longer content to take the lives of people. They want out… the demons, that is. They are no longer content to drive people insane, to the point of suicide. Only a suspended cop turned security guard could possibly be able to satisfy the mirrors by tracking down Esseker. What happens after Ben tracks Esseker down is Awesome! The surprise ending, I can see why Alexandre Aja had to do it. It made sense, but I thought that poor Ben had been through enough. He accidentally shot an undercover cop. He turned to alcohol and alienated his family. He tried to get his life together, staying with his sister and taking on the job at the department store. He lost his sister in a bizarre and bloody way. He really had been through enough. But I still loved the ending. Let’s talk about Ben’s sister, Angela played by Amy Smart. The jaw-ripping scene fucking rocked. I felt squeamish and gleeful watching Angela basically rip her own jaw off, sort of. Omg. The spray of blood that erupts from her body being ripped apart is awesome and horrifying at the same time. Amy played a small but very unforgettable role in Mirrors. This scene, along with the one where Ben’s son is sitting in the hallway with water all around him, made me want to see this movie so bad.
Ben’s estranged wife Amy, played by Paula Patton, I thought was inspiring. She had to get over her own doubts and fears and finally believe her husband. She had to protect her children at all costs. She was really hot in that white cami top lol. Okay, that last part was pure indulgence but she really kicked ass. Because of her powerful performance I could see her becoming a possible scream queen, depending on the roles she chooses to take on now. Her strong female character, along with Angela’s, really helped to make this movie that much better! I loved Mirrors. I enjoyed everyone’s performance, although maybe not to the same degree. The special effects were kickass and memorable. I can’t say it enough. I really thoroughly enjoyed this movie and challenge you to see this movie and find out if the half-assed critics were right when they reviewed Mirrors.
