So, chances are that you may not have heard of the independent horror film trilogy “The Jemima Trilogy”. We don’t blame you…now. If you don’t get off your horror-loving arse, then we may have to take issue with you! IF we can get off our butts and watch these captivating and intense movies, there is no reason why you can’t! Here’s the juicy, bloody, horrific scoop we got from Uisdean Murray, the writer, director, and producer of the Jemima movies!
The short version of what these films are about is basically this. The award-winning Jemima Trilogy is a series of independent short horror film starring Joy McAvoy as Jemima, a woman who resorts to murder after she suffers from one too many bad relationships. There is of course so much more to the story.
The first film that was made was Dating is Murder which took the form of a Black Comedy and can be seen at www.myspace.com/jemimatrilogy. Dating is Murder is all about how Jemima goes out with various men, teases them, and ultimately kills them when she’s ready. The beginning of the movie starts out with Jemima killing or attempting to kill her current boyfriend while she is giving him a bath in the bathtub.
Dating is Murder was then followed by Photographic Trophy, a thriller style prequel that tells the story of how Jemima lost her faith in men when she meets the charming Raul. Jemima is not the confident and collected killer that we see later on in Dating is Murder. She’s younger and not as concise, insecure and unsure about what she does. But she still gets into killing for reasons that we are not aware of yet. We find out those motivations in Sessions of the Mind.
Finally, Sessions of the Mind, a psychological horror, the latest in the Jemima movie series, explores the mind of Jemima and reveals new secrets that have been locked up in her mind for a long time…Only her psychologist (therapist) Victoria (played by Jo Menzer) is able to help her deal with the traumatizing secrets that Jemima has somehow managed to suppress all this time. With the help of her therapist, who’s now driven to uncover the truth behind Jemima’s killings, Jemima discovers why she has had those horrific visions, why she tried to kill her boyfriend, and why she goes after other men, cuts up their bodies, and disposes of them.
There is no reason why you should skip seeing the Jemima movies. If you like deep, psychological, horror films that don’t just give you the blood and gore without explanation, then these movies are definitely for you! Make sure you check out the Jemima trilogy and the prequel by Uisdean Murray!
