My Favorite Women of Mystic Falls

My Favorite Women of Mystic Falls

Since it’s officially the end of the first season I figured I’d sit down and write about women…the women of Mystic Falls. Now of course I won’t go over all the females but just the ones I like. This season has taken us through 22 episodes of pure vampire fun. It’s time to talk about some of the women who made it possible. And with that all being said, let’s kick this off with Vicki Donovan. When the show starts she’s the trashy drug-addicted little sister of the lovable Matt. She is dating Taylor Lockwood but also seeing Jeremy Gilbert on the side. Was it for the drugs he readily supplied for her or was it something more? It wasn’t very clear at first but as the show progresses it seems to be a mix of both. One night at a party in the woods, the sexy and evil Damon Salvatore attacks her. And that seems to be only the beginning of her problems.

Next would be Anna, or Annabelle as her mother affectionately calls her. We first see Anna as a cute/nerdy Asian girl who is hanging out in the library. Jeremy befriends her one day and she seems to be very interested in him once she realizes he’s a Gilbert. In fact she seems downright obsessed but Jeremy is able to keep her at bay some. Why was she so interested in him? That is because he is a Gilbert and h happens to have in his possession journals of his great great grandfather. His grandfather is the same man who locked Anna’s mother and a bunch of other vampires in a tomb. If you haven’t guessed it by now, Anna is a vampire. Her mother, Pearl, was Katherine Pierce’s best friend back in 1864 when they and several others came to Mystic Falls. Thanks to an accidental betrayal by one Stefan Salvatore, Anna had to hide and watch as her mother and all of the other vampires were pulled away to be locked in the tomb. That’s why 145 years later she’s back in town. She wants to free her momma. After a little game of deception and a kiss shared between her and that Gilbert boy she finally gets what she wants. As time goes on we find out what kind of girl Anna really is.

Moving right along we are now at Bonnie Bennett, the best friend of Elena Gilbert. She is sweet, loyal, and a little bit witchy. But of course at first she doesn’t believe that. Her grandmother claims to be a witch but her family thinks she’s just crazy. Things start out slowly as Bonnie discovers that her grams is not so crazy after all. The more she accepts this the better she gets. And at one point she even sets a car on fire. Can we say oops? There isn’t much to Bonnie aside from her being a witch. But don’t make a mistake of thinking she’s anything like Willow. Eventually Bonnie has to help with opening the tomb of the vampires who were locked away by Great Grandpa Gilbert and her dear old gram helps her.

Now we’re at Ms. Caroline Forbes, the Ms. Mystic Falls herself. Now this girl is the one you always wanted to hate in school. She is blonde, perfect, and snobby. Carol seems to be nice to her friends and she manages to annoy them at the same time. She’s superficial and doesn’t do dishes. Always casting herself in Elena’s shadow, she often pouts about how Elena always gets the guy. This explains exactly why she falls so willingly into Damon Salvatore’s arms. In fact she tells Elena she got the other brother. Caroline always tries to make it a competition between her and Elena. It’s not like that…Elena is just better. She even becomes Damon’s arm candy, enjoying its perks: great sex, gorgeous boyfriend, and boost in popularity. But she also has to deal with a few disadvantages as well. She manages to move on from Damon and starts an unexpected relationship with Matt Donovan.

Jenna Sommers is the next woman on our list and she’s the aunt to Elena and Jeremy. Not much is known about the pretty young aunt except that she was pretty wild back in the day. But she’s seems to have calmed a lot since becoming the guardian to the Gilbert kids. Because she’s still kinda young she can connect with them on their level and they both seem to love and respect her. She doesn’t know anything about the supernatural beings in the world. She has even wilder secrets that come out later.

Katherine Pierce, in four words is the head bitch in charge. She’s the original bitch in Mystic Falls and I love her for it. She arrived in Mystic Falls and charmed her way into the Salvatore house. Did she fall for one of the brothers? No, she fell for both. She favored Damon and promised him immortality and Stefan? She kept him around like a little puppy. She never wanted to choose between the brothers. While Damon willingly drank her blood she compelled Stefan to and never told them about it. She had promised Damon that he would be her only one in immortality. Her visions of having an awesome eternal threesome were cut short when the Salvatore brothers’ father found out she was a vampire. That’s what set the wheels in motion for all the vampires to be imprisoned in the tomb. Damon goes on all these years (145 to be exact) thinking his beloved is in the tomb. Fate takes a cruel turn when he finds out she’s not there.

And now finally we talk about Elena Gilbert. She’s the last one on the list because she’s the most important girl in town. There would be no show without her; everyone fights over her. When the show starts she’s just a normal 17 year old girl who lost her mom and dad several months before. This leaves her and her brother to be raised by her mother’s sister Jenna. Before the accident Elena was very outgoing and popular. She had her way with the boys and was on the cheerleading squad. Her parents’ death changes her drastically. When school starts back though she is more withdrawn and mature. She struggles from day to day as she tries to get her old life back. All of this changes when she meets the new boy in school Stefan Salvatore. He seems to ignore her at first and she doesn’t know why. The reason is that she looks just like his sire, Katherine. Stefan quickly learns though that Elena is nothing like her vampire counterpart. Damon comes into the picture as well. He also notices Elena and becomes interested in her. But it’s probably because of who she looks like. Time goes on and Elena finds herself caught between the two brothers. Most of us don’t mind either Salvatore brother. Elena is a really strong person because of all of the stuff she’s had to put up with. Now we just have to wait until this fall to see what else she goes through.

P.S. I purposefully left out information on what each character has had to go through for the rest of the first season. That way you can get over to CW.com to watch for yourself and be ready just in time for September 7th. Why September 7th? That’s when Season Two of Vampire Diaries starts! Make sure you get all caught up before tuning in this fall!
