I’m sitting here, wracking my brain, trying to figure out what to write for Girls of Horror. Hmm…lots of great movies are due out soon. I currently have 23 starring Jim Carey and Angst, both horror movies, on my movie cabinet. I haven’t seen those yet. There are tons of movies that I want to see when they are released in theaters. And as I write this, I remember that the horror movie The Shortcut isn’t going to be one of those movies…it’s going straight to video. I even have it in my Netflix queue! It apparently will be available sometime in the last part of September. I’m just wondering why Adam Sandler’s film company’s venture into horror didn’t just get scheduled for movie theaters first. Is it because he wasn’t sure how it would do? Or was he too busy with Funny People, that just came out a week or two ago? No idea on my end. I know that I want to see it, especially since it is a Scary Madison production. I’m a huge fan of his movies and this will be no different, except it’s a horror movie!
I usually stick to writing about females in the horror genre, and if it makes anybody feel better, there are some actresses in The Shortcut. Shannon Woodward plays Lisa. You might remember her from The Haunting of Molly Hartley. She played the part of Leah. We also have Katrina Bowden who plays the part of Christy. So only time and a viewing of this movie will tell if The Shortcut will be worth it, or if it was a good idea to skip theater release and go straight to DVD!
Here’s the official film synopsis, just for fun:
“Just behind the grammar school and past the ‘No Trespassing’ sign is the shortcut through the woods that nobody dares to take: People in town still whisper about the creepy old guy who lives back there and the kids that disappeared near his home a long time ago. Now a group of high school seniors has decided to find out just what the shovel-wielding weirdo may be hiding. But even if they can uncover his shocking secret, will they survive what happens when the truth is finally unleashed? Dave Franco (Privileged), Katrina Bowden (30 Rock), Shannon Woodward (The Riches) and Drew Seeley (Another Cinderella Story) star in this first twisted shocker from Executive Producer Adam Sandler that takes a whole new route to horror.”
Amazing, acting really is incredible. I personally am excited as heck to see The Book of Eli. It’s got my favorite actor – Denzel Washington. Really psyched!
So stoked to see The Book of Eli on January 15th. I’ll be checking back now and between that time for some news on that movie.
