 Don’t Neglect this ‘Orphan’

Don’t Neglect this ‘Orphan’

Normally when I talk about possible Girls of Horror aka scream queens, I stick with 16 years old and up! But something about this next girl, compels me to write about her, and her upcoming horror movie. By now you’ve heard about Jaume Collet-Serra’s horror thriller Orphan or seen a movie trailer here or there. You may not be as acquainted with the star of Orphan though, or the basic (if you can call it basic) storyline for this dramatic horror film.

Orphan, simply put, is about a married couple, Kate and John, who have recently lost a child and desperately want to adopt a little girl. They long to fill the emptiness that was left after they lost their unborn child. Kate has been emotionally lost and grieving and John wants nothing but to help her heal, and have a family with the woman he loves. I see nothing wrong with that! Apparently, the little girl they choose to adopt is nine, and there is something seriously wrong with her!

The girl that I am writing about plays the part of Esther. Her name is Isabelle Fuhrman and she is only twelve! Now that says a lot. The fact that this young girl had the talent to catch Collet-Serra’s eye and her age…is phenomenal! There are a lot of of-age actresses in horror films these days, and you can tell that they caught the director’s eye because of their assets and not their natural acting ability!

So far, I have seen a clip here or there, along with the official movie trailer for Orphan. And I will admit that her creepiness impresses me. This girl can frighten and taunt her adopted parents, and she still has a long way to go with her acting! Please don’t send me emails or comment saying negative things about this blog post. This is how I feel and I think other people should at least give Orphan a chance!

I’m anxious to see Orphan. It is set for release July 24th, and I will probably end up waiting for it to come out on dvd. I love watching horror movies in theaters, (Don’t get me wrong! I even collect the movie ticket stubs and have a massive collection currently!) but if there isn’t something that makes me drive to the local theater, forces me to stand in line, and pay the ticket price, I won’t go! But I will wholeheartedly support said film until I have a chance to view and critique it!

Don’t forget what I always say! Never let the critics determine your willingness to go see a horror movie. Half the time they talk out of their asses and are too desensitized to recognize a good movie, even after it bites them on the ass!! You want to see that movie? Go. You think this film could be really good but are afraid of what other movie reviewers will say about it? F*&^ it! Go see it. Only you will be able to tell if you’re going to like a movie, and that’s only after you SEE IT!
