Awards, Vamp Shows, and Lots More Inside

Awards, Vamp Shows, and Lots More Inside

My intention for the second post this week was to talk about who should have won what award and why. I realized something though. I need to watch at least a few episodes of True Blood first before I go and say that Anna Paquin shouldn’t have won. I do think that Jennifer Carpenter should have at least gotten a nod of some sort. She was great in Quarantine and pretty good in The Exorcism of Emily Rose, and she’s good on Dexter. But as it turns out, Anna Paquin was in a movie called Darkness back in 2002 and she was in the first Trick ‘r Treat movie that came out a year ago. I’m sure that she will do more horror type movies at some point. And, she gets bonus points for getting engaged to her co-star Stephen Moyer back in August. As far as Jennifer is concerned, she will be starring in the drama thriller horror The Factory due out in 2011.

CW's hottest show Vampire Diaries

CW's hottest show Vampire Diaries

I will disagree on who won the best show. I am a fan of the new CW hit Vampire Diaries and I love Dexter. So it was really a toss-up between those two. I like that Vampire Diaries came out before the Twilight book series. I like that the main character seems to be a smart person and not an emotional flake. As Nina Dobrev’s character Elena said in the episode titled You’re Undead to Me: “I’m not going to be one of those pathetic girls whose world stops spinning because of some guy.” I absolutely love this quote. I love it because it is an amazing opposite to the drama in the Stephenie Meyer’s book series Twilight. Elena is strong and yes she has a deep emotional side, but we haven’t seen her wallow in pity, at least yet. Everything I have seen and read about Vampire Diaries screams that it is so different from the other series with a vampire boy and mortal girl in love. There are dimensions to the rest of LJ’s books that we have not even touched on yet. I am hoping that Vampire Diaries sticks around for a while. It sucks when tv critics help bury perfectly good shows. That brings me to my next point…

Moonlight

Moonlight

I loved Moonlight. I liked Mick St. John and his whole twisted story. I was so not happy when Moonlight was cancelled. It was a premature move and if they had waited a bit longer, it would have really paid off. I’m willing to bet that CBS is kicking their selves for getting rid of a vampire private eye who is in love with a mortal reporter woman. Hmmm we have almost heard this one before. Does the blond detective from Angel ring any bells? They almost could have thrown them together but didn’t. Seems they were onto something! So good shows don’t get the recognition they deserve and the latest trend catches on like wildfire! Of course the big thing right now is the release of the second movie in the Twilight series New Moon on the 20th, which is only 15 days away. For the record, I am Team Jacob. I have my reasons and yes, I know how things turn out, which you would think would change my mind. Yeah…it doesn’t. I still maintain my support for Jacob Black and that is that. And one of these days I will pick up the last book and read it, even though the person I rooted for doesn’t win.

Seems I’m on a role. I will be celebrating my 5th wedding anniversary on the 6th, in our true to form style, ie, horror movies and good dinner plus some romantic time! We will be watching Paranormal Activity, Saw VI, AND Zombieland, preceded by a nice mushy dinner somewhere before we cram 3 horror movies into our date night! I will be sure to post those reviews when I get a free moment next week! Til then, don’t let critics tell you what to watch. They don’t call it free thinking for nothing!
