 All I Want For Christmas

All I Want For Christmas

There really aren’t any horror movies worth seeing in the last part of the month. Which sucks! It does. The last few years, I have had some sort of option to see a horror movie released in the month of December. This month, I have no real choices. I’ll of course go to see Sherlock Holmes, which comes out right on Christmas! And for reasons I don’t want to get into, the Alvin & the Chipmunks Squeakquel will also be on the menu for my horror movie dinner platter. I usually save my horror movie-thons for  Valentine’s Day and other odd holidays!

Legion

Legion

Of course, January is a completely different story! The Legion, starring Paul Bettany, comes out on the 22nd. Daybreakers also comes out in January 8th of 2010! And Case 39 is due out on the first of the month…looks like Renee Zellweger takes in an innocent girl that clearly is not as innocent as she pretends to be. The only problem I see with these films is that there are no strong female characters that are even being noted in the first five names of actors that appear after the title and director’s names. Yes, Renee is not that strong of a character. She really hasn’t been a strong character since that horrid Tom Cruise sports agent movie of yester year!

Daybreakers

Daybreakers

Why don’t more film companies and studios release more movies around Christmas? It doesn’t hurt anything. It gives people something else to do, besides hang out with family and stuff ourselves on pies, cookies, hams, turkeys, etc. Most food joints are even closed on Christmas day! What else is there to do on Christmas? Millions of moviegoers see movies on Christmas every year! The number is growing! So what’s the harm in releasing more horror movies around Christmas?

Silent Night, Deadly Night

Silent Night, Deadly Night

If you bring up Silent Night, Deadly Night, I’m going to kick you! Seriously, look out for a raven-haired girl about 5’9, hitting your shins very soon! The deal with that dally was just that parents got really upset a long time ago (as they often do! Mine still do, and I’m well over the age of being under their thumbs!) that some psycho decided that he was Santa and dressed for the part! The story doesn’t stop there! He decides who’s nice and who’s naughty, and he kills the bad boys and girls! The protest and outrage was so bad, that they stopped advertising on tv and pulled the movie from theaters! (This of course has no bearing on the 1972 killer Santa in Tales of the Crypt! Nobody mentions that one now do they?)

Scrooged

Scrooged

Of course, I won’t recommend the next four or five Silent Night movies, as they become ridiculous and redundant. I instead take comfort in knowing that for the bazillionth time I will be watching Scrooged. And if you choose to open your mouth and say, that was not a horror/scary movie, guard those legs! There was a sorta gory goofy haunting by his old business partner and do you not remember the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come? No? I dare ya…watch Scrooged again, even if you’re like me and make a yearly habit of seeing it! Remember when the movie first came out, how certain parts were disconcerting! (definitely not the dancers’ nips, right? Those brought comfort!) At least you get something a little scary to watch…at least until Hollywood decides to finally listen to the MOVIEGOERS, and gives us what we want! A little bloody pieces on Earth!
